In the food industry, there is a lack of information on where food is coming from and there is a lost sense of connection of how our food is produced. Food is an essential part of our
lives and food also plays an important role in our cultural identities. Rituals such as regular meal times and hobbies may ease the stress of daily living in our fast-paced families of today.
Home gardening can be a tool for education and bring families together. It can be a therapeutic hobby that brings healthy and nutritious food
to the table.
Gardening can provide a family with fresh produce that enhances our physical and mental well-being. Caring for a living thing also gives people a sense of accomplishment and purpose in life.
Gardening encourages people to be more involved in their community. Joining a Farmer’s Market and sharing homegrown food within the community can build a bond between locals.
Gardening can be used to support healthy interactions with future generations and reinvigorate our connection with nature. Plants can also teach us how to be attentive and responsive to their needs.
CloudGrow is a lifestyle brand that embodies the excitement of Urban Agriculture and it’s goal is to enrich people’s lives through healthy living and eating. We believe that fresh fruit and vegetables can be grown and shared easily with people around us and there is a real sense of pride and joy in growing your own food. CloudGrow is a community, a service, and a product.
The CloudGrow website is where it begins. Currently there are 127 people in the Edmonton area and they are all growing and sharing food in our own backyards. The CloudGrow website automatically detects which city we’re in just so we can see our who is nearby first, but there are countless other city who have joined the Food Revolution. People in Edmonton have become friends during their membership to CloudGrow through their shared interest in growing fresh fruits and vegetables.
CloudGrow Sensor One is a device that analyzes the soil for moisture and pH, as well as surrounding sunlight, CO2 and O2. It intelligently sends data to your CloudGrow account. Multiple sensors can keep track of different areas in your yard and each sensor can be assigned a different plant listed in CloudGrow's extensive database, the Almanac, which adjusts the sensor's settings appropriate to the assigned plant.
When someone has downloaded the app onto their iPhone, they can keep track of their plants’ status and see the progress of their friends around them. When the app is launched, they are taken directly to their profile which contains a list of all the food they're growing. A CloudGrow Sensor is tied to each individual item to make it easier for them to keep track of multiple vegetables in different areas in their yard. When a tomato is ready and ripe, they can choose to share it in the virtual store or keep it for herself.
